Age Calculator
Next birthday: in 195 days
Direct answer: Enter your date of birth and the calculator works out your exact age in years, months, and days, plus your total days lived and how far away your next birthday is. You can also switch to “Age on a specific date” for your age at any past or future date, or “Date difference” to measure the gap between any two dates. The worked example below shows a full result.
Worked example
Example: Born 15 May 1990, on 27 October 2026 you are 36 years, 5 months, 12 days old — 13,314 days in total. (If you run the tool today, the day count will be slightly higher, because it counts up to the current date.)
How age is counted
Years are completed birthdays: you turn 36 on your 36th birthday, not before. Months and days then count from your most recent birthday to today, borrowing days from the previous month when needed — the same way calendars work, including leap years (29 February birthdays are counted on 1 March in non-leap years by most systems).
Frequently asked questions
How old am I today?
Enter your date of birth above — the calculator counts completed years, months, and days up to today’s date.
Can I calculate someone else’s age?
Yes — enter any past date of birth.
Does it calculate age at a past or future date?
Yes — choose the “Age on a specific date” mode, enter the date of birth and the date you want, and the calculator returns the exact age on that date in years, months and days.
How do I find the difference between two dates?
Use the “Date difference” mode: enter a start date and an end date to get the gap in years, months and days, plus the total days, weeks and approximate months between them.
Age Calculation: A Deep Dive
1. How Date Difference Really Works
2. Years, Months, Days — The Standard Breakdown
The three steps, in order:
- Years: today’s year minus birth year, minus one if this year’s birthday hasn’t happened yet.
- Months: today’s month minus birth month (borrow 12 if negative), after moving past the last birthday.
- Days: today’s day minus birth day, borrowing the previous month’s length if negative.
3. Your Next Birthday Countdown
Take this year’s birthday if it hasn’t happened yet, otherwise next year’s, and count the days in between. For our example — born June 15, “today” October 31, 2026 — the next birthday is June 15, 2027, which is 227 days away. The countdown also tells you the day of the week you’ll be celebrating and how many days you’ve already lived this year of life (138).
4. Age in Days, Weeks, Months and Hours
The same age can be expressed in any unit — handy for milestones (“10,000 days old!”). Because months and years vary in length, these totals use the exact calendar count, including leap days:
- 30 years ≈ 10,957 days (30 × 365 plus leap days)
- ≈ 1,565 weeks (days ÷ 7)
- ≈ 360 months (30 × 12)
- ≈ 262,968 hours (days × 24)
5. Worked Examples
- Standard: born June 15, 1990, on October 31, 2026 → 36 years, 4 months, 16 days.
- Next birthday: the same person’s next birthday is June 15, 2027 — 227 days away.
- Leap birthday: born February 29, 2000 — in non-leap years the birthday is celebrated on February 28 or March 1, and the exact day count still includes every leap day lived.
- Total days: 36 years, 4 months, 16 days ≈ 13,287 days lived (including 9 leap days).
